A new facility for AIM will be built in Morgan Hill, California, but until it is completed, workshops will be held at the site in San Jose. When operating at full capacity, the Morgan Hill facility will host up to 20 focused workshops each year covering a variety of mathematical topics, along with several smaller projects. The Morgan Hill site is in a pleasant rural setting south of San Jose, adjacent to a state park with over 80,000 acres of public land and more than 300 miles of hiking trails. Despite its rural setting, Morgan Hill is served by the commuter CalTrain which provides convenient access to the San Jose and San Francisco airports.
The main building, whose design suggests the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, will contain the housing and dining facilities for workshop participants, a large mathematics library, and seminar rooms. A smaller octagonal building will house a lecture hall and administrative offices. In addition, apartment style accommodation will be provided by two on-site houses.
