This textbook is designed to support a two-semester mathematics content course sequence for future elementary teachers. Sections are designed to be worked through collaboratively in class with frequent investigations and think/pair/share activities. Each chapter ends with a problem bank of more in-depth homework exercises. The book emphasizes building students’ confidence and their ability to solve problems and explain mathematical ideas. It is in use throughout the University of Hawaii system and several other institutions around the United States.
